The City of Thorold is currently accepting applications for 2020 Summer Student Employment.  Students may apply for more than one position in various departments.

Work schedules may include evenings, weekends and holiday shifts; hours or work will vary by position and can be up to 40 hours per week.  Successful candidates are expected to be available for the duration of the summer season and requests for time off outside regularly scheduled days off will be limited.  Students working general labour positions will be supplied with safety glasses, hard hats, gloves and reflective safety vests, however, are responsible for the purchase of their own CSA approved footwear.

Student applications for Parks and Playing Fields, Public Works, Arena and Cemetery will be accepted until February 14, 2020.


 

Arena Services

Under the direction of the Supervisor, successful candidates will be responsible for the daily maintenance of the Thorold Community Arenas operated by the City of Thorold.

Duties include by may not be limited to:

  • assist with maintenance and cleaning of arena including meeting room, offices, lobby, washrooms, change rooms and stairways
  • assist with maintenance and cleaning of pool including lobby and change rooms
  • complete minor repairs
  • facility painting
  • other duties as assigned

Contract dates: April 27, 2020 (or based on student availability) to September 7, 2020
Salary: $14.00 per hour


Cemetery Services

Under the direction of the Supervisor, successful candidates will be responsible for the daily maintenance of cemeteries owned and operated by the City of Thorold.

Duties may include but not limited to:

  • turf maintenance including fertilizing, cutting, seeding, weeding, watering and leaf removal
  • litter pick up and changing garbage barrels in cemeteries
  • removal of flowers from graves
  • edge and level existing markers
  • assist with gardening including soil management, preparing and planting flowerbeds
  • assist with pruning, fertilizing, preparing and planting trees and shrubs
  • other duties as assigned

Contract dates: April 27, 2020 (or based on student availability) to September 7, 2020
Salary: $14.00 per hour


 Parks and Playing Fields

Under the direction of the Supervisor, successful candidates will be responsible for the daily maintenance of parks and sports fields owned and operated by the City of Thorold.

Duties include but may not be limited to:

  • assist in maintaning parks and sports fields
  • turf maintenance inlcuding fertilizing, cutting, seeding, weeding, watering and leaf removal
  • grooming of ball diamonds
  • lining fields
  • assist with playground equipment repairs
  • building maintenance and cleaning
  • other duties as assigned

Contract dates: April 27, 2020 (or based on student availability) to September 7, 2020
Salary: $14.00 per hour


Public Works

Under the direction of the Supervisor(s), successful candidates will be responsible for the daily maintenance of infrastructure operated by the City of Thorold.

Duties include but may not be limited to:

  • assist with general maintenance and labour
  • grass cutting, trimming and pick up of roadside debris
  • garbage removal
  • painting
  • other duties as assigned

Contract dates: April 27, 2020 (or based on student availability) to September 7, 2020
Salary: $14.00 per hour
