Skate Patrol

2021-2022 Skate Patrol Applications

The City of Thorold is currently accepting applications for 2021 - 2022 Skate Patrol Staff.

Work schedules may include evenings, weekends and holiday shifts; hours of work will vary by position and can between 3 to 20 hours per week. Successful candidates are expected to be available for the duration of the Ice season and requests for time off outside of regularly scheduled days off will be limited. Successful candidates will be supplied with safety vests. Skates and CSA helmets are required for this position, and will not be supplied by the municipality. 

Anticipated contract duration: October 21st, 2021 to March 31st, 2022
Wage: $14.35 per hour

Job Summary

Responsible providing a safe and enjoyable experience for participants during City of Thorold Skating Programs.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for receiving payments for public skate programs
  • Complete and submit arena documents as required including, but not limited to, Daily Cash Deposit Forms, Daily Attendance Forms and Incident Reports
  • Monitor skating program for negative and unsafe behaviour and address concerns in a timely manner
  • Provide excellent customer service to all participants and arena visitors
  • Report unsafe facility conditions to Arena Operators and Supervisors when necessary
  • Monitor use of permissible equipment
  • Ensure ice is clear pre and post skate
  • Help maintain a clean and safe facility
  • Perform basic first aid as required and report emergencies to Arena Operators immediately
  • Assist with additional cleaning and customer service duties during Tournament and Events as required
  • Report to Program Supervisor Community Services

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Emergency First Aid Certificate considered an asset
  • Strong skating skills and knowledge of safe on ice practices
  • Must being able to work in a cold environment
  • Must have the ability to find transportation to and from arena
  • Must be available to work a minimum of one shift per week
